Am I cursed?

This weekend three of my optical devices broke. Firstly, the dvd burner in my desktop computer died. It's been acting a bit flaky for a few years though, so I guess it was kind of expected. Oh well, I thought, and promptly ordered a new one. (They really are dirt cheap these days, by the way. I remember my first cd burner costed 2000 SEK, now I buy a dual-layer dvd burner for 300 SEK.) It'll get here tomorrow.

All right, I guess I'll have to use the burner in my laptop then, I thought. So I transfer 4GB over the wifi cause I'm too lazy to connect it via a cable. That takes about half an hour. Fire up the burner software, put an empty dvd in the drive and press burn.

"Disk not empty"

Strange, I thought. Maybe the disk was bad? I tried another one with the same result. A third one didn't improve the situation in the slightest. So apparently that drive doesn't work either. Great. I guess the burning will have to wait until Tuesday. No big deal.

I continued my evening slightly annoyed, but soon forgot about the whole thing. Much later than what is generally recommended, I went to bed. I usually put on a cd on my little bedroom stereo to help me sleep and this evening (morning) was no different. I opened the tray, put in my new B. Fleischmann cd (very nice) and closed the tray.

"No disk"

Damn it, I thought, don't tell me the cd is so scratched up it can't read it, I just got it two days earlier. I opened the tray and checked the cd. Clean as a baby's bottom. Hm, bad analogy. Clean as a... as a... really clean surface... thingy. You know what I mean. So I put the cd back in and closed the tray. No go. I tried a few other disks but the display window kept informing me that the player was fed up with my constant ordering it around and wasn't going to do my bidding any more no matter how many cds I fed it. So now I'm going to have to send that away to get repaired.

So, if I'm not cursed there can only be one other explanation: miraculous_m has infected me with her technology-killing forcefield. I might as well start constructing a full body Faraday cage right away.
