Heed the voice of the public!

Did I ever tell you about the time I rang my local council? No? That's alright, here's what happened.

Towards the end of last year, I rang the council asking for recycling bins to be placed on my apartment property so we could properly recycle our wastes. The council denied my request saying the truck which collected recycle bins was too big to fit in the side street next to my apartment block. So I hung up dejected and figured there wasn't much else I could do.

After my HSC exams, before uni started, I cleared out all of my unwanted notes and worksheets and came up with a whooping 15 kilo bag of waste paper. I just could not throw all this paper into the normal garbage bins so I rang the council again with a new proposition. I said, "As the council, you should provided public recycling facilities for those who want to use it". They asked me, "Where can we place recycling bins for the public?", I said, " There's plenty of council property to utilise, for example, the local library can take part, or even place it anywhere in the actual council office. That way It can be accessed by the public at all times".

The lady on the other end of the phone seemed really reluctant about placing bins at the actual council, but gave me a reference number and said she would pass on my request. I didn't hear anything for a long time, and I rang the council again asking for progress. I wasnt told anything I didn't already know.

After that, I rang my local mayor and said, "I've put forth a proposition to the council for the betterment of my local area, it would be very nice if you also supported this environmentally friendly gesture".

Today, I came home from uni to find 3 new shiny red lidded garbage bins and 2 yellow recycle bins! IF YO FACE SUCAAAAAS! Where's your big trucks now??

I really feel good about this. I'm hoping I can utilise this victory and set my Merlin campaign into gear and at full speed. There is so much to be done, to be done! Time is of the essence, make haste! after watching a little 'Being Human' =D
