It's short, but I really just wanted to write a fic where I wasn't beating Fischer up in someway and then he still gets hurt LOL. Also I needed some cobb/robert so I could go to sleep after reading an ontd creepy post omgggg.
Robert Fischer eyes the cup on the table, focused on its contents, the water tilted at an impossible angle. "Notice the gravity shifts," Cobb tells him. Robert looks back up at Cobb, those piercing blue eyes staring directly at him, and Cobb can see clearly that he's beginning to win his trust -
And that's when a real gravity shift occurs. Cobb isn't expecting it, and barely has time to register what's going on as he feels himself thrown forward. The whole world has shifted: tables come crashing down and glass is shattering and falling against his back, sharp edges tearing through the cloth. Everything shifts again, and suddenly gravity is pulling both Cobb and Robert into the floor instead.
Robert hits it first, hard, and the wind is knocked out of his chest. Cobb nearly crashes into him, nearly crushes the body beneath him but at the last moment he's able to get his arms forward and break his fall. His whole body is pressed up against Robert's, and he can feel the smaller man's heart beat frantically against his chest. It takes Cobb a moment to collect himself, to force his mind out of auto drive and back into conscious thought, and he can tell Robert is still reeling from the experience, his blue eyes wide.
Robert's breaths come fast, and Cobb can feel them acutely, warm against his cheek. It's then he notices how close his face is to Robert's, how he can see every detail of the man's face: the smattering of freckles, light against flushed cheeks, cuts from the shattered glass marring smooth skin. A face full of glass still hurts like hell. Cobb wants to press his lips against them, erasing the pain from his wounds.
Robert's own lips, Cobb cannot help but notice, are full and parted, and he can see himself leaning in, closing the gap of just a few millimeters between them, can clearly envision claiming those lips with his own, lacing his fingers through dark hair. It would take just the slightest movement, and Cobb has to restrain himself from going through with it, but they're so close and it would be so easy to just -
Cobb's mind registers suddenly that Robert's thoughts must be similar to his own, because his heart hasn't stopped racing at all. Cobb knows that he should be getting up now, that he should be helping Robert onto his feet again but he stays there just a second more and relishes the feel of Robert's body against his own and he realizes that he's held Robert pinned beneath him just a split second too long.
It's Robert that makes the first move, clearing his throat awkwardly before bracing himself so he can push his body up. Cobb quickly climbs off of him, offering him a hand in assistance.
"I guess," Robert says, still dazed from the experience, "this really is a dream."
He sounds disappointed.
