New look, New Profile

May 31, 2007 21:48

So, the inkscribe LJ has a new look. Why might that be, you may ask? This account is now Basic. Basic accounts have minimal user pics and no adverts. No adverts mean no clickthroughs. No clickthroughs means, sorry, LJ, no aggregate earnings from readers tempted by those pithy statements of consumerism.

Before, it felt like a fair trade - LJ offered a great place to read and write fiction, good networking possibilities, and lively and intelligent meta. I can use a few more icons for the option of carrying ads, and hey - that felt fair enough. Now, as long as the journals in my community don’t suddenly become the target of deletion, I still get all of the previous great features of LJ. Trouble is - I don’t trust that they’ll behave any more sensibly the next time someone comes knocking to protest at their door.

Everyone else has already said what my Inner!Rodney would say on the issue of mass LJ deletions by TPTB - far more coherently than I might have - so I won’t repeat the whole sordid mess here. However, if you somehow missed it, you can click on Apology Not Accepted for a deconstruction on the apology offered by TLJPTB.

Also, for reference regarding this LJ, please see What You Need to Know About This Journal for further information.
