So anyway, I'm in my first year of a communications degree. w00t and all that jazz. One of my courses, Communication and Information Environments is deeply, deeply boring. Whatever, I can cope.
It was with great surprise that in my required reading yesterday, I found a section called Fans and Fandom. (I learnt from this that the library is not a good place to spittake, but that is a whole other story.)
The sad thing is... the author got it wrong. Or carefully didn't say it all, or whatever. So everyone else is going, "Man, fandom! I mean geeks! As if you would..." and I'm thinking, "Hmmm, well actually, this definition of Slash is wrong... it's actually gay pr0n... unless the meaning has changed since this was researched..." then I realised what I was thinking, and why I could NEVER actually say that in class.
So yes. Interesting observation for the day.
