Lola and the BeanOriginally uploaded by
inkognitohI'm really enjoying my little ball of scratch and bite. I had been planning a blog post all around Lola's best friend 'the bean' but so much more happened and has happened since then that the tale of how she stole a bean from the bowl while I was harvesting them for dinner is now one of the less colourful tales of her life story :) The bean has gone to the big compost heap in the sky now but my God they were inseparable for a good two days at least.
Shortly after this photo was taken, she made the major milestone leap of stepping off the boat and onto the towpath. She jazzed around for a few hours outside, loving the freedom and dragging every stick and leaf she could find inside for later chewing and shredding. Her first steps on dry land were promptly followed by her first fall into the canal. Doing nothing quite by half, she managed to swim up under the gunnels, between the boat and the towpath wall where she was unreachable. My heart was racing as I dried her off with a tea towel and hugged her close once I did manage to grab her.
Lola fell in the canal once more, the next day, at night. Having clambered on to a boat which was breasted alongside me she splashed down when attempting to get back home. I'd offered the boat to tie alongside me at a supermarket mooring as there was no more space. This kind act paid dividends when their crew locked me through a flight of 9 locks on the sunniest summer day we've had this year leaving me to do nothing but sit back and daydream with a cold drink. They effectively turned my day around as I'd expected a long hard slog locking through single handed.
Even better news is they've invited me to a campout, festival style party this weekend. Sometimes it truly pays to be nice.
In non kitten and boat news, I've finally got a deadline for the end of my temp role. The baby momma wants her job back in the first week of September. She'll be coming back part-time so an interesting situation has arisen with regard to job share opportunities. If anyone knows of any upcoming, interesting work from Mon-Weds, I'd take it and stay here for the other two days. Failing that I've just spent my lunch hour re-establishing contact with all the agencies I registered with in January.
