On Friday night some of us (myself,
silverjet-allie and
fechtbuch ventured off into the wilds of Dalston to find The School For Gifted Children, an off-beat comedy night which is part of
London Word Festival and just the thing for nerds like me. It was pretty funny and well held together by
Robin Ince who receives a super special commendation for guiding
Alexei Sayle through a maddeningly cringeworthy first time back on stage in 'a while'. Hat's off to you Ince.
Other highlights included
Ben 'Bad Science' Goldacre actually using a doppler ultrasound on stage to prove that you actually can't massage your carotid artery without some sort of incision and the random use of graphs by the maths guy. Ben Moore's epic tale of love and gloves rates a mention too but it would be almost impossible for me to explain and sound remotely sane so you'll have to take my word for it.
Sunday saw the reconvening of the Sunday Lunch Club for 2008 and I gluttonised (is that a word?) through roast beast and pudding till I was fit to burst but was able to find strength to bake my first tray of homemade muffins, utilising my snazzy new kitchen scale and curling up by the fire with a book in the evening. A good weekend all round.
Oh yeah, Mark Lemar is doing a weekly special:
Redneck Music which is really rather fabulous. They've aired two episodes so far and if you like country/blue grass/mark lemar/music in general, you should give them a bit of a listen.
