OTP meme & lj anniversary
Inspired by phineasjones's OTP meme, I'm taking a trip in the way-back machine to look at my OTPs, in honor of yesterday being my 6 year anniversary on lj in some form or another. The funny thing that came up putting this together is I realized that I still love all these pairings so much, even though I'm definitely not active in many of these fandoms anymore. (Hi, bandom!) I think what makes all of these OTPs for me and not just some pairing I like is that at one time or another, I was completely happy living, eating and breathing only that pairing. I couldn't think of anything else. And there was something about the pairing that just ate my brain. Sometimes it was a particular fic that pushed me over the edge into OTP land, or sometimes it was just canon being so damn good.
Putting this together has also made me realize just how many OTPs phineasjones and I share. Thnks fr th mmrs, Phin!! I blame you for much of what is here. And for getting me into fandom in the first place. uroq.
The pairing that got me started: Harry/Draco. phineasjones posted a link to Love Under Will, I think, by Aja, way back in July of 2002, and not long after, I wrote the following: they're so perfect for each other -- draco's just so clearly misunderstood -- all that tormenting mudbloods and dueling with harry -- all just a ploy to get harry's attention. Srsly u guy. Harry and Draco taught me that subtext cannot be denied!
Soon after came Harry/Ron. BFFOTP! I still ♥ them with all my heart. My favorite Harry/Ron: Close Enough by helenish.
Sirius/Remus. Except Sirius and Remus in my head are not like in the movies. I can't remember who made the Ewan McGregor suggestion, and I can't remember any more who the proper Sirius was, but yes, no Gary Oldman. And phineasjones's All Soul's Day is still exactly what I think happened when they were reunited at the end of PoA.
Snarry. If Cobra Starship had been around then, I would have been singing "Guilty Pleasure" nonstop. I have since then lost all sense of shame or impropriety. Thanks, fandom! Um, I guess I don't have one true pairing for Harry, really... all of these are my favorites. Picking just one would be Wrong. Mmm, Tradescant's Fidelius. So good.
Frodo/Sam. I still get all choked up when I listen to "Into the West."
Mmm, lotrips. My first venture into RPS. I got over my "but they're Real People!" issues oh so quickly. Billy/Dom.
Which led very quickly into my first OT3, Billy/Dom/Elijah. Seriously, how can you not go there? Look at them! Shaenie's Convergence series just rocked my world. The site's gone, and I can't find the stories anywhere online, but I still have my printed out copies, and sometimes I go back and reread and just ♥ ♥ ♥.
Karl/Viggo. After I saw these pics, cimness's Karl and Viggo's Manly-Yet-Gay Camping Adventure pretty much sealed the deal.
Willow/Tara. I was introduced to Buffy via the musical episode and was of course immediately won over. Nobody can rip your fannish heart out of your chest, stomp on it, and wait for you to say "again, please?" like Joss Whendon.
Xandrew. I just. Andrew's my favorite, ok? And I like, flail, when I think about him. He has to be with Xander. The end.
Seth/Ryan. I stopped watching the OC after the first two seasons, but hackthis's Telegraph Avenue is the definitive epic work for these two for me. Ryaaaan! Sethhh! Meep.
Simon/River. See above re: no shame, and Joss's Mad Skillz.
George/Jake... and all those other guys. This foray into RPS brought to you by hackthis, circa 2005. I started reading celebrity gossip columns online like mad. But was quiet about it. Found shame again? Lost it quickly thereafter.
Hello, Stargate! Jon/Rodney, McKay/Sheppard, McShepp, whatever you want to call them, they have brought so much fantastic amazing fic and joy into this world. Kidfic! Dolphinfic! Epic death fic! Supermarket AUs! MPreg! FLAIL.
Jack/Daniel. Their love is so don't ask, don't tell, and apparently worth dying and coming back to life for again and again.
Bill/Laura. They make me a puddle of goo. Please also note my OT3 hovering in the background. Oh Billy. Bill/Billy/Laura, meep.
The main reason why I watched Lost when I did was this pairing. Hi Dom!
Fraser/Kowalski. I may have to go with Phin on this one too; if I could only have one pairing forever and ever, amen, I would probably pick these guys. Due South, kids - now available on NetFlix, thanks to fandom. Go forth and enjoy.
Joe/Billy, Hard Core Logo. Ow.
Sam/Dean. Shame returned for a while with this pairing, but dude. Canon involves wrestling for bananas and stuff when they're not off fighting demons. I can't help it! Also, the angst quotient is definitely high enough for me. Amnesia fic ftw!
Nine/Rose. I love Ten and Rose, don't get me wrong, but strangely enough, it's thinking about Nine and Rose that just makes me want to cry. And looking through this list, that's apparently what makes an OTP for me: lots and lots of tear-jerking fun times. Doh!
But ok, yes, I love them. ♥
Gus/Shawn. I'm so pschyed Psych's back soon. The writers are adorably sweet to us and throw a bone every couple of shows, and really, BFFs who fight crime using a photographic memory and geekitude? It's like Spencer/Ryan Fraser/Kowalski Harry/Ron John/Rodney all rolled into one. How could I not ♥ them 4eva.
Vince/Eric. Entourage kills me. I need the next season like burning. To acquire a similar feeling of discomfort, watch astolat's vid Pon de Replay below.
Ando/Hiro. Meep.
Petrellicest. /o\ Too much broyay here. Have reclaimed sense of shame. It burns!
Jack/Ianto. I just can't even. Sometimes Torchwood is so bad. But this pairing, man, I would watch anything with this pairing in it. giddygeek's Sun in the Sky sums it up perfectly for me, with a nice side of angst.
And now we come to the world which has been eating ma brainz since April of 2007: BANDOM.
The pairing that started it all for me were these guys. There is no world in the multiverse in which Pete and Patrick are not married, no matter what Ashlee Simpson-Wentz may have to say about it.
Frank/Gerard. These guys make me so happy in so many ways. Their band wants to save our lives, people! Through Projekt Gaymolution!
Ok, Pete gets to have one other pairing. Because it's canon. Pete/Mikey.
Bob/Ray. They are the mom and dad of MCR! They take care of everything and everyone! And each other. With teh sex.
Andy/Joe. I've only found pretty much one Andy/Joe fic (which, don't get me wrong, is awesome), but the Andy/Joe of my mind is the epic wip I have sitting in my GoogleDocs titled "Farmer Joe" that will someday be done. I play in that universe pretty much every night as I'm falling asleep, and I love them So Frickin Much.
This pic captures my current ambivalence with my true pairing for Spencer James Smith the Fifth, aka my favorite. Here he is making eyes with Jon, but Brendon's looking on wistfully. Meep.
I think Brendon/Spencer has slain me, although I still have srs tinhatty moments for Jon/Spencer. Oh the hugz! The way Brendon is turning his head into Spencer's neck. idek.
Um. In conclusion, there are some people that I just love with everyone. Hi Zack and Spencer!
That was a ton of fun. And so happy-making. OTPs are so frickin' shiny and made of awesome! I just want to hug them and squish them and smoosh them and love them 4eva. I am so happy that fandom is a part of my life. Go team you!
