Nerd Up!

Just got back from Dungeons and Dragons Worldwide Game Day at Neumo's in Seattle. I've seen bands from John Spencer Blues Explosion to Dengue Fever at this place but I never thought I'd be playing D&D there!

Me and two guys from my regular group, Lou and Nick, signed up for a table together and we played the official adventure for the day, Into the Shadowhaunt. Our dungeon master was Chris Youngs from Wizards Of the Coast, and we played about 2 1/2 hours. Our party, 5 in total, was tasked to find out what had happened to two young boys who had been kidnapped and taken away to some nasty crypt. We managed to solve a riddle, avoid a couple of traps, fight some baddies, get some treasure and experience, rescue the boys, and no one died! I played a dwarf fighter and got to do some cool things, like Covering Attack, which does extra damage and let one of my friends get away while he was knocked down and in danger of getting stepped on by a living statue.

So far, I'm really enjoying the 4th edition rules. This did not feel like a 1st-level adventure at all - we got through 3 fairly tough encounters and we weren't completely wiped out. I think some other groups had more trouble than we did though, like the table next to us. A lot of it was probably due to some lucky die rolls on our part but I think we played it pretty smart as well.

Anyway, it was a fun way to spend a Saturday morning. WOtC provided some snacks and prizes, and we all got free t-shirts.

Of course, we had to have our pic taken with the beholder!
