Because
kat_lair tagged me, I'm doing the meme!
Comment, and I will name you 3 interests from your list, and 3 userpics and you explain them in your own post asking the same of your flisters.
1. Cartoons
I like cartoons beacuse they're funny, often sweet and sometimes quite creepy. They can make jokes or statements in equal measure. Gary Larson, Peanuts, Tom and Jerry, Disney, Harry Potter fanart... I don't care, I'll take it all. I even like the political ones we have in our History textbook where the Conservatives are a donkey kicking David Lloyd George in the backside. Comedy gold.
2. Highlighter Pens
This is a throwback to the early days of my journal, in all likelihood. I don't really know what possessed me to put that on my interests list. There was probably a highlighter on my desk at the time. I'm not denying that highlighters are awesome, because they so are, but I don't have any kind of fetish about them. They're just quite cool :)
2. John Wyndham
One of my very favourite authors. He was British, wrote sci-fi novels in the fifties and is just all kinds of awesome. His full name, for example, was John Wyndham Lucas Parkes Benyon Harris.
His style is very fluid and laid-back, and even though there are obvious language differences from the modern day, it doesn't bother me and I just enjoy the stories he's telling. In addition to my unwavering love for his writing (with possible exception of Trouble with Lichen... that one's just kinda strange) I also collect old editions of the books, from second-hand bookshops and car boot stalls. I have about eight old editions, though I'm still looking for The Kraken Wakes and The Midwhich Cuckoos (I've read both and have a new edition of Kracken, but I lent Cuckoos to a friend and never got it back *woe*). My oldest is from 1964, which I got in Nerja (Spain, omg!) and is a collection of short stories. I was so squeeful when I got that, because I haven't seen it in a modern print.
Yes, it's a slight obsession, but it gives me something to do. I also get annoyed whenever John Wyndham doesn't get mentioned as a great science fiction author. I don't really know why... I would recommend his books to anyone, starting with Day of the Triffids. Then The Chrysalids, which is possibly my favourite.
So he's on my list because he does not get enough love, and he deserves lots.
Icons....
This one's from Night Watch, the Russian sci-fi/fantasy film made of win. It's from a slightly random moment where Anton (on the left) just leaps on Bear (the other guy) in the middle of this slightly dire situation where a vampire's holding a young boy hostage on a rooftop. I love the way Anton's all "OMG BEAR YAY!". Obviously he's just stopping Bear from mauling the vampire woman to death, but he's just so damn cute when he does it that I needed an icon so I could glomp people in the same adorable manner.
One of the many lovely expressions of Much, from Robin Hood. This one says, quite simply, "wtf?". He's not entirely sure what to do with the spliff interesting herb Robin has just given him. Therefore this icon is for puzzling situations, or when I need to express confusion. Also, I can't have enough Much icons. Not possible.
We all know that when someone wanders off alone on a deserted moor that trouble will ensue. Especially if they happen to be wandering away from an abandoned village full of corpses. Why is it that the characters never seem to know this? It makes no sense. Anway, this is to illustrate Ianto's occasional stupidity, and so the occasional stupidity of the world at large. Sometimes, though, it's just for laughs. And Ianto's jeans.
