With only 9 more school days until finals, I'm really, really happy. Granted, my kids have been jerks and someone at LP forgot to pay us this Friday so we won't get our paychecks until Monday, but I really feel like I've done an awesome job this year. I made a list of all of the things I've done this year for resume purposes, and it filled two pages. And that's not including all of the stuff I've figured out just living on my own. And it isn't including the impact I know I've had on some of my students.
Next year is going to be good. I was a little disheartened about staying in LP for another year, but Jack took a job here teaching English (congrats, Jack!), and I will be teaching freshmen, sophomores, and creative writing, along with doing the lit mag and drama club, so I think I'll have a really good time.
Speaking of drama club, I've decided to take on the fall play. It's a huge endeavor. At least a 2.5 hour show, three performance dates, a few sets, some ridiculously awesome costumes... It'll be great. I've chosen Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead for the fall play. It's really funny and very cool, based on Hamlet. I think it'll be a good choice. For the contest play, I'm toying around with the idea of doing The Laramie Project. It's a really modern, experimental take on Matthew Shepard's death in Laramie, Wyoming. It's so powerful, and after I pitched the idea to the kids, they got really excited about tackling some of the societal issues they deal with on a daily basis... some of them being gay or having gay friends, etc. It's going to be a really great year for them.
Other than that, I've been spending a lot of time in the city. :-D I plan on doing more of that in the coming summer months.
All in all, things are good. Just trying to keep myself busy, which has proven not too hard. :)
