Need Advice!

I've been lousy about posting, I know, but I have an important question that I need help with from the ether (that's you.)
Next week is our fourth wedding anniversary (woo!) and as seems to be usual, Dave will be out of town for a conference. So the plan is that I'll drive out to meet him and we'll make a nice post-conference getaway weekend out of it.
His conference is in New London, NH, so that's our starting point. After staring at the map for a while I've convinced myself that I do in fact know which state is New Hampshire, but that's about all the knowledge I have. I've never been in New England outside of short trips to Boston, so I'm clueless on the what-to-do/where-to-go front.
We're looking for something cheaper and maybe-outdoorsy, but nothing that relies on terribly fit bodies to have a good time (i.e. biking around a lake for an afternoon=good; biking from place to place or ending up stranded in the woods=bad).
So. Favorite spots? Things to avoid?
