Where: Cave and Caroline's apartment When: Friday evening, Dec 23rd Who: Cave and Caroline What: After Caroline accepts Reaper knowledge, it has frightening side effects on her. Warnings: Some possible creepiness
While the lack of meals was a problem for Cave, he assumed that Caroline was simply working on a project. And after dinner was skipped, Cave was hungry curious enough to want to know what she was up to. He tries the door, and finds it locked. Well, now that was odd.
"Hey Caroline? The doors locked. What are you doing in there?"
The sounds stop for only a second before there's the loud sound of glass shattering. Whatever broke must have been large and heavy because the floor shook a bit from the impact.
The response worries Cave, who skips straight to busting the door down. It's not a clean break, and the door will be beyond repair, but that's for another time. He stumbles in past the remains of the door.
"Caroline! Did you not hear me!? What are you doing?"
The room is littered with papers, all of which leave almost no free room between notes and diagrams written in red and black inks. The floor, her dresser tops and the walls near the door are covered with them, tacked up and spread out methodically. On the floor was a heap of broken glass, Cabrakan's gift now shattered to pieces. Caroline doesn't even look up at Cave or his entrance, in the middle of writing on the wall above her bed. She was still dressed in what she wore yesterday, her hair stuffed unceremoniously into a ponytail.
Cave is startled by Caroline's unkempt appearance, and the...well, he supposed he couldn't say the room was in disarray exactly. Not quite appropriate for visitors, but not in disarray. Not one to be ignored, Cave walks over to Caroline, grabs her shoulder, and shakes vigorously.
"Caroline!? Do not ignore me! What. are. you. DOING!?"
Cave sits a moment longer to seethe. The woman is clearly consumed by her work, but refuses to stop and divulge information. How to snap her out of it? Cave reaches out, and pulls Caroline away from her writing by her ear.
"Ah! Stop!" Caroline pulls from him before losing her balance and falling off the bed. Landing on her backside she stares up at Cave with wide eyes before looking around the room.
"Wh..what time is it? I only stopped to write a few notes..." There was a great deal more than a few notes. Hundreds of pages laid around.
"Well, it's night time. You've been in here for hours. Probably all last night too. I'll admit, I'm curious what you've been writing in here, but perhaps you'd like a breather?"
There is the smallest hint of worry in his voice, the anger passing and being replaced with the notion that Caroline may in fact be unwell.
Looks like the exhaustion finally caught up with her. Good. Cave picks Caroline up, and puts her on her bed so she can recover from...whatever this was. Despite the oddness of it, he was happy to have someone so dedicated on his side.
However, Caroline wasn't one to exaggerate. Did she say science would be forwarded by 200 years? As in two centuries? Well, this would merit some research, for certain. And while Cave wasn't the type to approve of piggybacking his science from preexisting data, this sounded too good to pass up.
So, with an empty stomach and nothing better to do, Cave grabs a handful of the papers, and begins reading.
Carefully, Caroline comes through the hallway to the kitchen, leaning against the doorway. "Yes. Sorry, if I worried you." That's when she noticed what he was doing and rushed over.
"Why did you move these? You can't just move my papers, they were put in a specifi-are those stains? Did you get food on my papers?" Caroline reaches over Cave to try and take them back.
