A Fistfull of My Own Avatars

Saw Identity the other night.  Multiple personality sydrome is always interesting, even if fictional, as Joe says.  Made me think about what would happen if I fissured myself, what particle entities, what avatars, might fly free, find land and walk on their own.

Before, I have been

The characters assigned the name "Nemo" all have escape as their connective trait. It is a name that I chose carefully, for it is applicable to several of my Avatars.

Odysseus(Nemo="Nobody"), lover of many, lost at sea for twenty years. Beset by the cyclops, Skylla, Charybdis, lotus, etc... but still finding time for dalliances with Circe while poor Penelope knits at home.

The Devil(Captain Nemo), tempting others with the idea of freedom from all tyranny, though he's stuck in them himself. A muse of attractive uncertainties, museum of failed philosophies and half-truths. Attractive, seductive, deceitful, uncaring, hurt.

The Dreaming Boy(Little Nemo), playing in a garden full of ghosts and wonders, inviting his friends for arcane games, stories without endings, languid hours amid the treetops of a world outside of this one, where people are kind to one another.

The Dandy, spending other people's money on lavish gifts, experimenting with drugs, with men. Rebellious, daring, emancipated, extravagant, decadent, and very much in love with beauty.

The New Yorker, dressing up to camouflage himself amongst the vamps, the vampires and the victims. He'll dance to anything, if properly medicated.

The Ghost, the face in the window staring for an hour, falling apart in the wind in a world real to him, but unable to touch anything physically.

The Magician, Creator and destroyer of imaginary worlds, stained robes and incomplete experiments fill his sanctum. One day he'll get it right and disappear completely.

The Charming Server, Hands clasped behind the back, he walks and acts like someone from downstairs of the wrong century. Eternally patient and helpful but knows he's smarter than his master.

I'm sure there are more but I'll stop there.

Wow! Absolutely incredible! Nemo: I love the way you unfurl words; I love the way you word yourself! Odd and wonderful how I start by seeing of each of these as mythical -- you know, golden caricatures -- and how by the end of their description, those caricatures have fleshed out and I see them as fully you.

Yeah: For sure: I recognize you here.

"Downstairs of the wrong century"? Yaay! :) I need to run to the cellar, find some jarred fruit, dried root, some rusted piece of machinery ... .

Wanna let Dreaming Boy and Jumping MonkeyChild have the treetops some day?
