Jason can't drink like he used to. Got a little tipsy last night from nearly nothing. Couldn't sleep -- until 3:30. Needed a honey bun remedy this morning.
It's a profane miracle that I am sitting here at work at all today. After going to bed so late, I woke up feeling hot, clammy, this morning. The air conditioner was off. So was the ceiling fan, the telephone, and the alarm clock. I looked in the hall. The building light was out, too -- the electricity for the whole buildnig was on the blink.
I put on some pajama bottoms and my flops and walked out to check the time on my car clock, sure I had missed half the day -- 7 a.m. I went back in, re-set my clock/alarm, woke up every thirty minutes until I got out of bed at 9 -- even had time to shave my head. Don't feel tired at all.
Sidenote: When I went outside in just my pajamas, some cap-wearing, mid-20's fella in flannel and jeans kept eye-ing me up, actually ended up that he was staying with my next-door neighboor and tried to start small-talk, all the while looking. Never fails to bowl me over when some jam-band, widespread-panic type lets his tongue hang like he wants to lay with you.
Good time with Beth last night. Mary couldn't come. We ate at the Pizza Cafe and went to Zinnie's. We talked about the shift in movie aesthetics from the 70s to the 80s, the difference between the intellectual "bohemian" and the more traditional kind, how recently we've felt able to tap into our pasts as foundations, and our affiliations with / alienations from academia. She wanted to go to bed early. I went to the P. Station for awhile, really just to meditate in a queer environment; there were too many people there for my taste. Then went home and played scrabble on-line way too late.
Nice night.
I'm taking a break from obligation today. Well, I'm still trying to find a replacement for the library's choice of "Flowers for Algernon" as the companion piece for the Frankenstein series next year. Other than that, I'll be fiddling on the computer, reading for fun, and taking smoke breaks today at work.
Oh! Beth made me lunch today! That was a sweet surprise. I think she said it was herbed potatoes, baked tomatoes, and a corn relish. My stomach is already lurching off that honey bun.
