Laughing at How We Laugh

Does anyone else know what I am intinctively, approximately, tentatively referring to when I use the phrase "free-press humor"? I am growing more than a wee tired of it.

It just seems that, between it and the highly visual, repetitive, physical humor of the late SNL school -- well, and the Simpsons/South Park middle road -- that humor, on the ( Read more... )

I am not hard to please comedically. I appreciate some comedians in general, but I have favorites.

Al Franken totally cracks me up. His political writing, not necessarily his SNL stuff. It's dripping with truth and irony and it makes me feel good when he twists the knife just a little bit deeper.

AbFab and Sarah Silverman. I class the two of these together because they are quintessential obliviousness, and I can TOTALLY appreciate that. AbFab because they're posh, strung out, don't care, and loving it. Sarah Silverman because her schtick is unabashedly oblivious, to the point of offending absolutely everyone and everything. It's a great character. I feel I fit in there somewhere between them.

Puns. Oh GODS! It's sometimes groan-worthy, but sometimes hysterically funny. My friend Doreen and her husband are infamous for great puns, my favorite being Uncle and Auntie Pornography.

Anubis hand puppets. Index and pinky fingers upright (for ears) and thumb touching the tips of middle and ring finger (for snout). This amuses me to no end. Egyptian God of Death, and Happy Puppy!

OK: The Anubis hand puppets just cracked me up! Thanks!

And Al Franken is actually brilliant. I should expose myself to him more, though. I don't know Sarah Silverman. Who is she?

I think we might need a new "Match Game". :)

There's a million Anubis jokes.

Her new movie Jesus is Magic is out in some theaters now. The site auto loads the trailer and there's audio on it.
