'09 Holiday Giftart Rules

Aug 01, 2009 20:23

A little while back I brought up a giftart for underapreciated fanfics proposal. There was some interest but no fics were sent my way, and I figure that I'll put it in it's own journal along with a few rules I'm using. There's not that many, and it's really more of a "Q & A" than anything else.

What you do is find a fanfic or fanfic writer that you feel deserves fanart for that wonderful story that doesn't seem to get any attention from their fandom at all, you send it my way and then there's the chance that it'll happen.

The deadline for sending fics is October 1st. This is to give me time to read all the fics, to actually pick which ones I'm going to do, and finally to draw them. Because I know how I think, the earlier you can get the fics to me the more likely I'll choose one of yours, as I'll read them as I get 'em and the more they sit in my brainspace the more likely it'll stick.

My goal is to complete three pictures of high quality, and maybe, maybe some simple ones for the others if I have the time. Examples of the high quality kind include this, this, and this.

1: How many fics can I nominate?

Five total. They can be all from one person, or from completely different people. This is just to keep things small and simple as it's the first time I've ever done this sort of thing.

2: Whose fic can I recommend?

Anyone's but yours. This is a GIFT for someone you think deserves it. If I find that this rule has been abused... well that's a shit move and you shouldn't do it. This right here is the core reason I'm doing this giftart for fanfic thing, and is the absolute rule I will not abide being broken.

3: Is there a limit to how long the fic can be?

No, it can be epic length or just a ficlet. I'll read both. This is other reason for the deadline besides drawing time.

4: What fandoms of fics are you taking?

Any kind, all I ask is that I know it. One, it saves me time and peace of mind from having to do research for a completely new universe, and two, it prevents any mistakes that might happen from not knowing anything about it.

5: Which genres and ratings are allowed?

All of them save PWP, and I refuse to do porn of any kind. It can be horror to humor, G through R, lighthearted or very serious. Romance is my only iffy one, it's not my cup of tea but I'm not going to exclude it as I know it's a favorite for a lot of people, but if it's well written it's all good.

6: How are you choosing which fic you're going to do art for?

This is a little up in the air... obviously the better written a fanfic is written the more likely I'll choose it. But since I know that there's very likely going to be a very wide range of stories all I can do is promise to be as objective as possible while still keeping to the spirit of what storytelling is all about.

7: You don't know me, but can I nominate some fanfics?

Absolutely. Lurkers or just passers by are welcome, not just the people who talk to me.

I think that's it, if there's any other questions feel free to ask since I have the feeling I may have forgotten a thing or two. If there's a fic you want to nominate but you feel is not quite allowed thanks to every rule but Number 2 you can still ask. Also, if you want to remain anonymous for the gift receiver go ahead and PM me. (I haven't figured out how to do the anon comments thing yet)

ETA: If a list is being made or some time is needed, I can add a few days. *really wants at least three fics to work on*
