The blaring, high pitched shrieking of Yosuke's alarm roused him reluctantly from his slumber. He groaned and shoved his face further into his pillow. The sunlight was warm across his face, filtering through the closed blinds. He made a soft, irritated noise and willed his alarm clock to shut the hell up. If that wasn't annoying enough, someone began to pound on his door.

"Yosukeeeee!"

Teddie. He didn't even have to hear the voice to know it. He shoved his head under his pillow instead to drown out all the activity. It was way too early to be awake. This was an hour where no human being should be awake.

"Yosuke!" Teddie screeched and this time he sounded like his mother, tone scolding. "It's our turn, remember?"

Yosuke sat bolt upright, pillow flying across the room. "Crap, I forgot!"

Next was the mad scramble to get his pants on, tripping over everything humanly possible in the attempt. It didn't help that his room looked like a bomb had gone off. He kicked his alarm irritably as he did so, effectively shutting it up by breaking it against the floor. But he didn't notice as he flew around his room.

It was not, in fact, six in the morning like he had thought. It was noon. And it wasn't school or work he had to go to, it was Souji's place. Souji, who had been all alone since Nanako and Dojima had been put in the hospital.

What a mess. As Yosuke scrambled to dress himself and at least look semi-presentable his thoughts flashed back to everything that had happened. What a mess and he didn't know how the hell Souji managed to still appear at school everyday. But at this point Yosuke knew better. It was a facade, one significantly not present when Souji was at home. Yosuke had noticed by now ever since he and the other members of their group had started taking turns staying over at his house. The Dojima house was completely empty and Yosuke knew that had to be taking a toll. So he had gathered everyone together and proposed this arrangement. Everyone had agreed to this without hesitation.

Souji had done so much for them, after all, without a single complaint.

And so it was. Although it wasn't every day that someone could be there they were around often enough that, Yosuke hoped, Souji wouldn't feel too lonely. Yosuke was there most, usually accompanied by Teddie but not always.

As Yosuke sprinted out the door, Teddie following him and scolding him angrily for sleeping in, he could only hope it was enough.

And at the time it really had been. When they had arrived that Sunday afternoon, everything seemed like it had been previously. Souji looked exhausted but happy to see them. They chatted about stupid, mundane things. He even made them dinner because he said he missed cooking for others.

But when the time came for them to stay the night he turned them away. He asked them to leave. That was absolutely not like normal and despite Yosuke's pestering for the reason and insistence that they should stay, Souji gave no straight answer. So they had left despite Yosuke's gut telling him they shouldn't have.

So when Souji completely vanished without a trace the next day and that became the catalyst for everything that followed... It was understandable why Yosuke never quite forgave himself for not listening to his instincts.
