So ...
Yet another trip to Southwest Kansas, via Manhattan.
Highlights: Picking up the pink flamingos for the holiday yard decorations; Casey's Cowtown Club, in Dodge City (I'd match their steaks against anyone's); hanging out at Rusty's Last Chance, drinking Hornsby's Cider and roughing out a couple of sets of lyrics.
Oh, yeah, and giving a foot rub (strictly platonic) to a beautiful biochemist.
Low points: Picking up someone's cold (I'm beginning to hate staying at motels, for that very reason); panicking because I thought I had all my travel money stolen (it slipped into a rip in the lining of my suitcase -- color me ten shades of relieved); putting 1,100 miles on the car with gas over $3 a gallon.
Diner reports:
Two from Meade, on the trip:
Bob's Drive In (repeat visit): The classic: Cheeseburger with everything, fries, root beer. Just the way it was 25 years ago, and that's a good thing.
54 Drive In (first visit): Patty melt, fries, soda. Not bad but I think I'm still a Bob's guy.
Mission, close to home:
Town Topic: Double hamburger (99 cents after 4 p.m., grilled onions standard), onion rings, soda. Darn near perfect.
I'm over the cold now. Few feelings as good as that.
