So, I'm back in southwest Kansas -- the ancestral homeland, as it were -- for a couple of days, after a few days in Colorado on the longer leg of the trip.
It's the weekend, and that means fresh tamales from Tortilleria Vitolas. Hand-rolled, loaded with meat and red chile ... I can get good Mexican in KC, but I've never found tamales to match these.
These are, I swear, the crack cocaine of Mexican food. I'm amazed that there were leftovers, but they will be dealt with as soon as possible.
Side note: Several bottles of wine purchased this trip, both with possibilities. Got a bottle of Chablis from Smoky Hills Vineyard in Kansas, and a 2002 Lemberger (think Syrah-ish red) from Trail Ridge in Colorado.
The former wants to be paired with chicken and mushrooms, I think ... I'm going to put the latter down for a year or two.
