I really wanna yell at some of the people I see on blogs. Specifically, people who confuse concepts like 'personal responsibility' with 'knowing every possible detail, consequence and occurrence of every situation you could ever even potentially find yourself in and have a fool proof plan for handling it all by yourself with no help from anyone else, ever, and if you don't know absolutely everything about everything than you obviously deserve every negative consequence you could possibly experience.'
Look up synonyms for responsibility. Omnipotence is not one of them.
Of course, when people bleat about 'personal responsibility' what they really mean is they don't want to pay taxes, and they don't care about what happens to anyone outside they're personal circle- and even then, they only care insofar as it won't inconvenience them. In short, they don't believe human beings have a responsibility to each other. They believe in the law of the jungle, and would much prefer to still be living in caves and killing buffalo with sharp sticks.
Yelling, of course, isn't going to convince them. Nothing will convince them because, even if they have the capacity to see reason, they don't have the capacity to care about anything larger than themselves and, most importantly, their wallets.
So, instead, I come here to yell to people who I know will be sympathetic, and spend my 40 hours a week trying to pass laws that will protect the rest of the world from these vermin.
