So last saturday there was a wrestling fundraising BBQ. I was talking to one of the parents, and he asked me what I was doing this summer.
I told him I took the summer off wrestling, but that I was now playing rugby and loving it.
He just kinda nodded his head, and asked if I was going to school or working at all.
I happily answered that yes, I was a baker at a convenience store, and that I had a summer class coming up in July.
He thought about it for a bit, then said how he found it interesting that he asked what it was that I do, and instead of mentioning school or work, I just went straight to sports.
Yeah, what can I say. Working and school is just what I do so I can do what I really want to do. It's not who I am or how I define myself. I'm a wrestler first. Lesbian second. A rugby player third. And then the list gets confusing.
One of my profs once called me scholarly. I laughed. Not in her face, but I definitely laughed. Really. I've never considered myself that ever. I go to university, which does not make me scholarly at all.
