in praise of raisins

Because so many people asked ...

Raisins are dried grapes.

They are sweet and sticky and many dentists think they're worse than candy or soda.

I like golden raisins best.

My SIX(!) favorite ways to eat raisins are:
  • Cooked in oatmeal, with brown sugar and milk.  If you cook flax seed or hemp seed or slivered almonds or all of the above in the oatmeal too, it's even more amazing and very nutritious.  (Plus, with the hemp seed added in, you might fail a drug test and endanger your security clearance if you have one! Yay non-intoxicating forbidden plant products!)
  • On top of sticky buns.  No nuts, please!
  • With peanut butter.  Dip 'em right in, then pop 'em in your mouth.
  • Covered in chocolate (i.e., raisinets).
  • In oatmeal cookies, as long as they're the big juicy ones and don't get too dried out in the baking.
  • In bread pudding.
I like dried cherries even better, but dried cherries are expensive.  (Yes,
donnagirl and
phantomsmom.  Just like cheese.)

Thee ende.

(Stay tuned for an account of new funky folky instruments, coming up next!)
