You should treat them like they're (not-quite-half) drabbles.

Dear Carey,

I'm glad you had such a kickass time at Oberlin, even if you did catch the Oberlin Death Flu. I half-expect that next weekend I will catch the SMAF Death Flu. Oh well.

We ought to stage a folk festival in a hermetically sealed clean geodome. And make sure there are plenty of tea vendors on site. Also? Cough drops.

Signed, your non-music-performing doppelganger,

Lori

Dear iniswitryn,

You are really six years old. You should hang out with people your own age. We need to go to SMAF. After that we can have chocolate. Remember that time we studied Lewis and Clark slash? That was real mature. Maybe tomorrow we can sneeze. You are my playmate. I acknowledge the divinity within you!

Signed your sillybilly,
horvendile

p.s. I didn't notice the P.S.

Dear horvendile,

Does that mean I can't hang out with little kids like you anymore? *cries* What do you mean we'll have chocolate AFTER smaf? I'm having chocolate while I'm there, buddy. That's why I'm bringing the chocolate cereal, remember? You're right about the sneezing though. Remember to buy some Systane to make your conjunctiva feel better.

You are not a sillybilly, you are a sillygordon. Duh.

I acknowledge the four-year-old within you,

You can still hang out with the little kids like me. I like older women.
As for the chocolate; I intend on having chocolate before, during, and after SMAF. Hey AfterS*M*A*F can be the name of our failed sitcom.

Dear iniswitryn,

You are really a excellent sender of kandy kakes.. You should send more kandy kakes. We need to go eat kandy kakes. After that we can eat butterscotch krimpets. Remember that time we drove your car through bowling green? That was real sad cuz we had no kandy kakes.. Maybe tomorrow we can eat kandy kakes. You are my kandy kake. I eat you!

Signed, your sister in kandyland,
kandysheryls

Dear kandysheryls,

I will send more kandy kakes when you have met your goal and maintained it for 6 weeks. 'k? And you could send me more pickles. Do they have Tony's pickles in cowlumbus? My big white car misses you. Of course, it misses me, too. Next time we road trip we'll bring kandy kakes AND pickles AND smarties AND coffee. Lots of coffee. Must. have. coffee.

Or chai.

Signed,

Your friendly neighborhood kandykake pusher,

Dear iniswitryn,

You are really fabulous. You should already know that, of course. We need to go to dinner sometime. After that we can talk all night long. Remember that time we glittered up before a show? That was real fun and playful. Maybe tomorrow we can message each other. You are my groovy internet pal. I adore you!

Signed your nerdly friend,
Mollie

p.s. take care of yourself.

Dear Mollie,

You are teh awesome and I hope YOU know that. I hope I get out to Berkeley sometime, so you and I and that fab boy of yours can go out to dinner. We've talked about this for long enough, haven't we? And I don't think we're going to go to any bead stores in Columbus anytime soon, so that plan is out.

And of course I remember that Y2K show. It's just funny to think how long ago it was.

Signed with deep admiration,

p.s. How are things going for you lately?

First, just know that we have a guest bedroom which is available for you.
I'm doing fine. Overall, good...considering. I will soon have an MRI which will be important in determining how well the chemo is functioning. I'm back to work, though, and busy lovin' on my dogs. Saw Akeelah and the Bee, which I *quite* enjoyed. More sappy than I usually go for, but sappy in all the right ways, if you know what I mean.

How are you??

xoxo
