Capitalism is Life

I enjoyed this essay. I think the first video was a little on the simplistic side and the term "other nations settled by Western Europeans" badly glosses over the very real moral issues and evil consequences of imperialism, but the argument for a voluntary, market based social system is rock sold, even if they are arguing it from a ( Read more... )

1) People have always been greedy. The current monetary system (google "End the Fed") is engineered to benefit the greedy. With real money rather than money from nothing and regulation by market forces, rather than regulation of market forces, the kind of tricks Wall Street and the Banks engaged would have only hurt themselves and the people who believe than theft = virtue.

2) The fact that you even ask the question indicates that if you were allowed to keep everything you earned, rather than having nearly half of it stolen from you, you would be the first to help those around you who were in need. The fact that people keep voting for politicians who promise to help the needy (even if they don't) shows that the majority of voters, were they allowed to keep what they earned, also feel the same compassion you do. Most people are generous if the have the means to act on their compassion.

I trust that most people are actually good. You only need to force "kindness" if you believe most people are bad.

I've really just scratch the surface on this. Responses to your objections that are formulated far better than mine have already been written.

For more details on your first objection google "Austrian Business Cycle Theory"

For your second google "who would help the poor in a free society"

Thanks, but it wasn't me, I was just channeling Ron Paul and Stefan Molyneux. Besides, after having heard the objections a thousand times if I couldn't come up with something that at least sounded rational I might as well become a communist or something.

Oh, and if you do use it, fix my typo "...the people who believe that theft = virtue" or you're going to look as stupid as I feel right now.

Nice to hear from you as well.
