"Oh I don't mind you being older than what I thought. But all the rest of it. That pitch about your ideals being so old-fashioned and all the malarkey that you've been dishin' out all summer. Oh, I knew you weren't sixteen anymore. But I was fool enough to believe you was straight."

What does that even mean? Can he not speak like a normal person ( Read more... )

cold weather is not so great, doing what he's told, iago is the best inmate ever, this play is ridiculous, just a touch of whiny

Iago, I'm impressed that you're making an effort to take in the material. If you're having some trouble with the dialect and the interpretation, then by all means, let's sit down and go through it.

I'm listening.

I am trying. But this is not my time. Not my place. Not my people. I honestly do not think I can do this if I know nothing of them.

I broke your rule and went into another person's room. But, before you decide to punish me, hear me out. He was scared and I wanted to...help.

And this is a perfectly reasonable limitation; the fact that you wish to know more is the impulse of an actor. The more you know, the better you can perform.

Go on.

I am not an actor, Marquis. Nor do I wish to be one. But, if you are going to force me to do this, I might as well attempt to not make a fool out of myself.

So what can you show me to keep that from happening?

[Private]

One of his friends did something bad. I was trying to encourage him to come out of his room. He hadn't left since breakfast and I knew that he was probably going to worry himself into a hole, so I suggested a walk. He agreed, but when I arrived, he did not want to go. So I went in to try and coax him out.

In terms of learning the dialect, there are a few people on the Barge who you could stand to observe, that speak similarly. But that's going to mean little if you don't first understand the content of the material, so let's sit down soon and discuss the setting of the play, and I'll show you some of the things that I've studied to better understand it myself. It's also quite beyond my time, you see.

[Private]

Will you tell me who?

When?

And who?

[Private]

Judas. I played basketball with him at the last port and I have been sleeping in the common room with him for a while, just to keep him company.

Anytime you are ready.

And we'll discuss that in person.

[Private]

...That's very interesting.

I have nothing else to do today.

[Private]

What do you mean by interesting?

Very well. Then we'll meet in the library.

[Private]

As known figures it is not the sort of pairing you expect.

As you wish.

[Private]

Pairing?

And this Judas is not the same Judas that I knew in stories. He is...more skittish. High strung.Compassionate And he needs someone to protect him.

He is interesting.

I'm honestly wondering what danger he would be in if you had another of your 'whims', as you had the last time a friendship you made took a turn you didn't like.

Does it help that I am worried about that, too?

It doesn't hurt.

Judas is different than the boy. He is just a friend.
