I've started playing backgammon on Yahoo games. It's so slow and the interface is so bad that there's little chance I can waste hours on it the way I did with GNUbg. But the way it's turning out is that I'm unlikely to waste time on it because it makes me feel like I'm stupider than dirt and reduces me emotionally to the level of a tantruming child. I expected that it would take some time to get used to playing against humans instead of a soulless machine brain, but I'm losing again and again to even the lowest-ranked players in the system. Sometimes I have ridiculously bad luck and sometimes I don't know what happens, but I do things right as far as I can tell and I still get beaten.
Well, time to quit and get back to work on paper-editing. I usually play games because they're more fulfilling than work, but on the other hand it can be nice to have a goal where losing is okay, as long as you keep trying and get it right in the end.
