writing -- aaargh!

I finished up the final revisions I wanted to make to the positive emotions chapter. We'd already submitted the Handbook of Emotions version, and I'd just been adding some material that I thought was relevant to the version we were writing for the Handbook of Positive Psychology. I checked the invitation letter for publication information, and I noticed that in between the first edition, when we wrote the first version of this chapter, and now, they'd cut the word limit in less than half! We are teriffically, explosively over and will have to seriously gut the chapter to make up. I then returned to the word processor, closed a few temp files I'd opened in the interim, and discovered that I'd also accidentally closed the current file, without saving. Most of the changes survived, but the four paragraphs that took a month of thinking and an epiphany to create are gone. I don't know if I have the heart to write them back up, knowing that I'm probably going to have to delete them in the end.

psych, arrrgh
