Very early impressions
You know, I was afraid San Francisco was going to be too big, or too alternative, or too hip for me. But in the less than two days I've spent here, I've:
* Talked to five very friendly, knowledgeable shopkeepers at local independent stores (and no unfriendly ones).
* Had the wallet I dropped in the cab returned personally by the driver.
* Had a mail deliveryperson offer to help me carry heavy boxes upstairs.
* Picked up three unsecured wireless networks in range of my apartment.
* Had my administrative contact at UCSF spontaneously offer to let me stay at her house if I had any trouble moving into my place.
How was I supposed to know people meant it when they said San Francisco was a nice city? I'm going to have to start being nicer myself!
