injury

I saw the orthopedic surgeon again yesterday. He's the one who seemed really insightful and confident a couple of months ago, and who set me up with that anaesthetic / steroid injection into my right hip. Yesterday couldn't have been more different. He actually seemed angry when I told him the pain had moved to the left hip. He said he couldn't even think about that, he'd never even looked at my left hip (which is not true).

First he tried to convince me that it was all in my head, and then that it had hurt before but I hadn't noticed it compared to the right hip. When I told him no way, he suggested that the left hip was probably getting worse and would have started hurting around now anyway (in which case it's just a staggering coincidence that it started hurting the very day my right hip got treated and stopped hurting).

He suggested that I go back into physical therapy for the left hip this time. I pointed out that I'd been doing all the phys therapy exercises bilaterally. He asked if I wanted an MRI or an MRA on the left. I pointed out that the imaging procedures hadn't shown anything on the right. Then he threw up his hands and asked me what I wanted to do. I told him I'd been hoping he'd have some ideas.

He asked if I wanted to try getting an injection in my left hip. When I hesitated, he asked me several tims if I was afraid of needles. I said I'd thought the injection was supposed to only provide temporary relief, and he snapped that I should have read the information sheet more carefully (I had read it, but it's phrased ambiguously). Then he walked out and left his physician assistant to write up the referral. He hadn't asked any actual questions about the pain and didn't even touch me.

So, the good news is that I got to see one of the top hip doctors in the country, and the bad news is that he sometimes acts like a prick. But the good good news is that the hip injection may have done more good than I thought, and that the next one might fix things. Although I still think there's something wonky about the way my left leg is moving when I run, and I suspect that's associated with the hip problems on both sides.

Anyone know a good running-specialty orthopedic kinesiologist?
