Ten Years Ago
On this day ten years ago, there was a willful, premeditated attack on our country. Thousands died and today, thousands more remember.
Times of impact: 8:46 a.m. and 9:02 a.m.
Time the burning towers stood: 56 minutes and 102 minutes.
Time they took to fall: 12 seconds.
Casualties: 2819 dead from 115 different nations, 343 Fireman/paramedics, 23 NYPD, 37 Port Authority officers.
The significance of 9/11 didn’t hit me on that day, but today, I can appreciate its full and tragic effects. I can relate to it as on par to the surprise and scale of December 7. The country was united on 9/11, as it was in 1941. We are splintering again, but let us on this day try to find unity once more against a common enemy and against a haunting sense of isolationism and appeasement.
