[024: voice + video]

[The entry starts off as audio, and throughout this portion of the presentation, there's a soft kind of gurgling, clicking noise, which sort of sounds like something that could be out of a Jurassic Park film. Trip is mostly ignoring it, although those with particularly sharp ears can tell he's pacing around his room a little.]

[Awwww, you're a good inmate, Preston. Trip is heading right up with the newly christened "Archer", who is sitting on his shoulder and chirping and gurgling at all the fun new things to look at.]

Hi. How've you been?

Good. [Trip is noticing your interest AND SO IS ARCHER who is chirping and looking at you all curious like, standing up carefully on Trip's shoulder and craning its neck out to investigate this new person, gurgling and clicking and generally being a curious reptile cat with wings.]

You wanna hold him - it? We're not sure what gender it is, but it's pretty docile.

[ He's... reaching out, brushing the tips of his fingers against the mouth of the reptile. Pets it gently... on the head and then smoothing down against the wings. He's really, really fascinating and no little awed.

Wow. Dragons. *_* ]

Can I- how do I- [ he shakes his head ]

Does it have a name?

[Archer is pretty entertained by all this attention he's receiving and tries sniffing Preston's hand, his tail swishing back and forth with excitement.] We were thinkin' of calling it Archer, after our captain. Seemed kinda appropriate, given the circumstances.

[He reaches up and carefully pulls the creature off his shoulder, holding it with both hands and offering it out to Preston, pretty confident it won't bite him or cause problems.]

Here.

[ Preston takes it... slowly... into his hands, looking at it like it's utterly alien to him- which it is, to be honest. Archer flails at him a little, reaching forward and nips at the air in front of him- and Preston rears back- and he blinks. This thing- no matter how different it looks, it reminds Preston of the little puppy he picked up and gave to Liza.

... Hah. He lifts it to his shoulders and pats it gently, gingerly, on the head. ]

It's so small.

[Archer is thoroughly enjoying all this attention and happily clings to Preston's shoulder, the clicking noise almost like purring now as he nuzzles his hand. Trip grins.]

Let's hope it doesn't get much bigger. I don't think the Barge can handle a full sized dragon... thing.

[It occurs to him as he turns towards the CES to open the door, pulling the action figure out of his pocket again that chances are Preston probably doesn't know what dragons are, so he should probably explain as best he can before tossing the term around willy nilly.] You know about dragons?

Only from the dictionary. They are- mythological. Only existing in fiction.

[ And now Archer is getting a little angry, as if he can understand what Preston is saying. It nips at Prston's hand, and Preston blinks, looking at it- and pats its head gently. ]

But it's real.

We're not really sure if it's a real dragon or not. It definitely looks like one, but it's not breathin' fire or smoking or anything. [And he's unlocking the door to the CES and taking a step inside, leaving the door open for Preston to follow.]

There're a couple good books about 'em, if you're lookin' for anything new to read.
