≈ o1 Dream | John: Dream about your dad.

Effects: disappointment, frustration at reaching for something unattainable
John is running across a checkered battlefield, heading for something that can't yet be seen. It seems like he's running forever and there's nothing in sight except for miles and miles of checkerboards, and there's a feeling of frustration because he knows he's here somewhere. He just has to keep looking, even Vriska said he'd find him.
The resounding footsteps continue for a good long while until a white suited figure can be seen in the distance. The man turns slightly, a profile shot - it's his Dad. There's a momentary surge of relief in him. He's alright, John knew he had to be. A smile lights up his face as he reaches out.
Dad!
But he seems to be just out of reach every time John's fingers are close enough to touch him. It's like those dreams with hallways and doors except it's his dad which makes it so much worse. He just wants to reach out and touch him, hug him. Anything more than just being the slightest bit out of reach. It reminds him of how he'd been so close to reuniting with him that one time, only to have it interrupted.
Finally, he lunges for his dad, sure that will close the gap between them. But the figure altogether vanishes, and he trips up on his own feet trying to right his body before he crashes into the ground.
John.
That voice- John whirls around to see his dad standing right behind him, smiling down at him. His face lights up again and he throws his arms around his dad, but the figure fades away and his arms end up just hugging himself instead. Simultaneously the scenery around him crumbles away, until he's left standing in a void of black, still holding himself as a sense of hollowness overwhelms him. His dad is still gone. He still hasn't found him.
