On Emoticons (or wasting time while I should be working on my real essay)

Why is it that the standard graphic for certain emoticons is exactly not what I want it to look like. Take for example this one :P I have always wanted that to have a sort of exasperated expression, sort of annoyed and irritated, but not actually mad at someone. I use it when I'm peeved with what whomever I am chatting has said, or in response to obvious teasing. The actual emoticon graphic looks more like it was just bonked on the head and its tongue fell out of its mouth; I may be imagining, but it almost looks crosseyed...
Another one that frustrates me is the wink ;) Why is it that its the 'deal-sealed' or 'y'know what I mean' kind of wink? When I wink it is supposed to be sexy, seductive, maybe slutty, but definitely not used-car-salesman sleazy.

Now, since it appears I'm alliterating, I will return to my senior thesis - which is currently only 30% finished.
