Wacken: The Second Coming

Aug 04, 2009 23:45

First of all: I absolutely refuse to believe that it has been a full year since the last time I wrote one of these entries! That's just...no way. And what's even worse is that the festival is over for this time, and I have to wait over a year for the next one D: (it's 366 days until Wacken 2010, yeah I checked).
Anyway, Wacken '09 = epic win in so many ways.
My original plan was to go with margull, but he had to work and ditched me (then he quit his job, but still didn't come with me to Germany meh), so I ended up going with Gar and two friends of his that I had never met before. Turns out I could not have wished for better company! They had good taste in music and were great fun.
Compared to '08, this year can be summed up with one word: drunker. I think I can say with some certainty taht I consumed more alcohol during those six days than what I have done in the rest of my life up to that point. And I loved it. We spent a lot of time just sitting around in our camp being silly and laughing our asses off. Good times indeed. And because it turns out that we are somewhat more creative in that state, we did come up with some (utterly ridiculous) inventions:
1) the cucumber shot - you hollow out a piece of cucumber, pour in some spirits and use it as a shot glass. It tastes good and it looks awesome xD
2) rum and chocolate milkshake - you won't believe how good it is until you have tried it!
3) about 55 different uses for gaffa tape - seriously, it can fix everything from shoes to socks to open wounds.
4) the Drink of Death - the taste was a whole lot better than expected, but the effect was about the same as clubbing yourself in the head with a shovel. Not all that surprising when you consider the ingredients: some vodka rasberri, a couple of seaman shots, a little jäger and some nasty spirits that Sister Girl left in our camp. *facepalm*

There was some music in between all the drinking too: Motörhead, Heaven and Hell, Machine Head, Einherjer, EPICA, Lacuna Coil and Nevermore were all great. The price for this year's best concert easily belongs to Korpiklaani though. The music is sort of happy folk-metal with songs named Beer Beer and Happy Little Boozer and so on. They went on at 1 am the last night, and the crowd was amazingly happy and drunk. And I crowd surfed for the first time :D I kind of can't hate the crowd surfers who fall on your head any more, because I can totally see why people do it. Tis awesome I tell you. Even if people were handsy as hell xD

The conclusion? I'm definitely going back for the third time next summer.
