Hey all,
Sorry for the lack of updates, but not much changes around these parts.
I didn't mention it last time, but it's been almost a year so I guess I should; we have a convicted felon living in the apartment with us about 4 or 5 days out of the week. Here's the thing: He was convicted of a sex crime, BUT HE'S A VIRGIN. I know this because he's 33 and acts like he's 16. Plus, he still lives with his parents, has no real friends outside
brightmane, and all he can talk about are tabletop RPGs, video games, and comic books. (When I say he goes on about them too much, you KNOW there's a problem!) Anyway,
brightmane's known this guy for 20 years, and according to Jamie, the guy was set up by the alleged "victim," her stepfather (yes, he's straight...awkward goes here), and a corrupt judge. Still, even though the evidence was refuted, the conviction was never overturned, so he's still subject to Jessica's Law, which in California prohibits a parolee from living within a 2,000-foot radius of schools, public parks, etc. So he registered as homeless with the parole board, and now bounces back and forth between his parents' place and here. (It should be noted that he spends most of his time here. >.>) Jamie's not taking too kindly to this, and neither are Terry and I. Not because of the crime he was accused of committing, but because none of us signed on for an extra roommate. This apartment can manage 2 or 3 people OK, but when the number of occupants > 4 (as
redmaul can attest), privacy goes out the window and tensions start to crop up.
Fortunately, I'm not in the apartment that much these days. This is because I need to get a 2nd job, or at least get application in for a second job at at least 20 different places, or else certain important RL friends will cut ties with me completely. Let's hear it for interventions. *finger-twirl*
Still, I'm more than halfway there; I've applied so far at:
Peet's Coffee & Tea (2 apps for 2 locations)
Borders (2 apps for 2 locations)
Barnes & Noble (2 apps for 2 locations)
Best Buy
PlanetWeavers (a New age store on Castro Street)
EBGames/Gamestop (2 apps for 2 locations)
Suncoast
Blockbuster
A Different Light (GLBT bookstore on Castro)
All-American Boy (gay clothing outlet)
The Castro Theater
AMC Theaters (3 apps for 3 locations)
Unfortunately, no one's called back.
Suncoast, Borders, Best Buy, and EBGames all say "Don't call us, we'll call you," Barnes & Noble accepts (and encourages!) callbacks, and I think the small businesses would welcome some attention from prospective employees. But I need to get to 20 businesses before I can really start the check-up process in earnest, and unfortunately, one of my biggest prospect, the Metreon Shopping Center, crapped out on me. No one was hiring there at all.
So, a little creativity is needed. Today: The zoo! Also, a new shopping center near SFSU.
In other news, got a new game I'm into. Thrillville: Off The Rails is as addictive as the first Thrillville. It's essentially a 'build-your-own-theme-park game for those of you who don't know. ^_^ A little more fun in some ways than the first, there are a few technical hitches that make it more aggravating in others, but by and large it's pretty fun. It'll definitely do until I can either get a replacement X-Box (mine burned out) or get a PS3. Mmmm, Elder Scrolls IV. And KH3. Plus I'm still hoping for that FFVII remake.
