I have a question.
How come movies are always better when you haven't read the reviews for them?
Is it free will? Does the fact that I don't like my opinion being decided for me have something to do with it?
I loved Narnia. Best movie I've seen in a long time. But then Terry has to go and look at the review pages and hear them talk about some scene (I won't say which, but I bet you can guess) that looked like it was out of Passion of the Christ.
>X-( Love for movie: Shot to hell. Hatred of religion: Rising.
I loved the Chronicles as a kid. They helped broaden my concept of spirituality. If God can take any form he pleases, including a lion, then who's to say all religions aren't equally valid in principle? Why can't one be all, and all be one (to steal a line from Alchemist)?
I didn't get the "Christian Club members only" implications until later, when they started getting shoved in my face in school. Now I don't think I can even look at The Last Battle again...which is OK, since it was my least favorite book to begin with.
I chose to look at the movies as stories, not religious soapboxes. I thought Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe did a good job of not being overly preachy about any of its messages. The movie really humanized the characters, and made the story more relevant to an audience that might not be composed solely of WHACs. But some people just can't keep religion and Narnia separate...
It's really depressing.
