I do things incrementally and without guilt.

I am currently studying two (possibly three) martial arts. Other than training sessions, I will do a little bit here and a little bit there. Even ten minutes of movement is good. Even five minutes of exercise is good.

I am working on a number of pieces of research. I have very little time to do these alongside work and family. Some days I manage to do quite a lot, some weeks I do none at all. I am not guilty about this. All these things are "for me." There is no deadline, no one is relying on me to deliver. Even fifteen minutes of reading is good. Even ten minutes of writing is generating words.

There was a time when I felt sorry for myself about NOT doing these things, and guilty when I DID do those things because I should be spending time doing other stuff. Then it occurred to me that the time I spent feeling guilty, or sorry for myself was time I could free up.

We no longer have the luxury of unlimited free time; but I have come to believe I have more free time than I think I did.
