Wow, my journal here was exactly one year old yesterday! Crazy. Of course, I didn't start using it regularly until a little while later, but still. :)
My goodness, things aren't looking good for "Becoming Jane" over at
AustenBlog.com, especially when you read the comments. Things like, "My biggest bugbear is Anne Hathaway. She is spectacularly miscast, lacking any passion or spirit. ... It was heartbreaking. JA reduced to a dull, maudlin twit?" and "I never thought I’d say this, but give me KK’s [Keira Knightley's] annoying smirks and pouts any day over AH’s bland pancake of bore."
It is sad that the movie is implying that it was this affair with Tom LeFroy that inspired Jane Austen's masterpieces and romantic genius. "So the important thing here is not that Austen was a great lady, that she wrote wonderful novels (inspired on reality or not ), she was a good sister (where is her lovely Cassandra?) or a nice woman, the important thing is if she had or not boyfriend." (Emphasis added)
Granted, this might be from a biased source, but it looks like Austen fans might find the film hard to enjoy.
This makes me laugh: "People whinged about Donald Sutherland in P&P until it was pointed out that he was a Canadian, not an American. Then the complaining pretty much stopped." (on the trend of Americans playing English authors/characters and vice versa...)
On another note, there's an article
here about upcoming movies for 2007. Why oh why are they making as "Are We There Yet?" sequel?!!?!! That's ridiculous! And all these other sequels. And they wonder why nobody goes to the theatres anymore? It's because it's not worth it to go pay $20 or so to see such mediocre movies when you can just wait and see it (for curiousity's sake) at home for much cheaper. Oy.
I am looking forward to the next "Harry Potter" movie, especially since I plan on reading the book first! And "Pirates of the Caribbean 3," even if it's just to see how everything ends. (They're good, but I do think the whole PotC movies are overrated, especially once you've seen them a few times.) There's "Becoming Jane," of course, which at the very least will have James McAvoy as a Jane Austen/period gentleman. ;D Actually, it looks like he's going to be in a few films coming out this year.
"Evan Almighty" looks funny, even just waiting to see it on DVD - I mean, come on, it's got Lauren Graham and Steve Carrell! Another one with Lauren Graham is
"Because I Said So", also starring Mandy Moore and Diane Keaton (and the dad from "7th Heaven").
And does anyone else want to see
"Epic Movie" just a little bit? I love how they're spoofing all these big movies (most of which I really like). I just wish they could keep it clean. :/
And who else wants to see
"Blood & Chocolate"? I'll admit it, I just want to see Hugh Dancy, whatever his accent might be. ;D
I really feel like going to see a movie in theatres, but since "Becoming Jane" might take awhile, I might go see Blood & Chocolate, or Because I Said So. *shrugs* I'm kind of bored.
Wow, I can't believe I've gone on and on about random movies. Yikes...
