Seriously... what happened to the Detroit Tigers and when did they become the Detroit Marlins? Go away. We were fine without most of you. I was ok with Edgar Renteria... I was ok with Jacque Jones. I am not ok with the Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis trade. Yes, I know, D-Train is an upgrade from Andrew Miller... and Cabrera is an upgrade from Inge... but I don't know. I'm more sad about Inge having to leave. Even though I wasn't too keen on his performance last year and he lost his status as "My Inge," it's still really sad and upsetting to see him go. I didn't care so much when Mike Maroth was traded, or when Carlos Pena was let go, but if we trade Inge, we're not going to get anything of equal caliber (especially if we trade with the Giants, as rumored.) We traded away a lot of our future and our prospects for the sake of getting to October 2008. Yes, I understand that's what championship teams are all about, but come on! We have absolutely nothing to fall back on. Not only that, but I'm pretty sure most, if not all of the guys we traded for this week are in their contract years this year... making them eligible to be free agents at the end of the season. Inge had three years left on his contract that he JUST signed with the Tigers. THREE YEARS!
The more I hear about this trade and the consequences it brings, I say fuck it and fuck you Dombrowski! We wanted more spending on the Tigers, and we finally got it... but at what cost? We are about to lose not only our longest tenured Tiger, but the one member of the remaining Tigers who has endured so much, what with being on the miserable 2003 team, being shuffled to a different position with the acquisition of Pudge, and the constant change of having four managers in his six major league seasons with the Tigers. He has the best personality and clubhouse moral of any of the Tigers - a well known and proven fact around Tigers fans and press. What started out as a harmless improvement of a desperate team has turned into a clique between a general manager and his "boys" from his former organization. Even if he wasn't the most productive or the flashiest player on the team, it still breaks my heart to see this happen to him.
I'll miss you Brandon, and I'll follow whatever you do and wherever you go.
And to the Tigers - I'm about to give you a hearty Fuck You. I'll never disown the organization, but you have created a black mark on your record, in my view.
