Slightly odd day, I decided to work from home today and was organised enough to load all my working files onto my laptop before taking it home last night. This is usually to guard against our home internet being down. However this morning I found that the main power cable for the office has burnt through! I'm not an expert on wiring but you'd have thought that a fuse should have gone before it got to the point of burning off the insulation and then burning through the cable! So, I'm very happy to have been set up at home and not to have driven round the M25 only to find nothing working. Power won't be restored tomorrow so I'll be here at home drinking our own champagne (translation: using the video conferencing software that is made by the company I work for. Fortunately, it's jolly good really.)

The poor air quality is noticeable here. I have been coughing some, and the air feels strangely thick. I hope it all lifts fairly soon.

It's fun watching the bird life in our small town garden. Al left a pile of privet cuttings on the patio and we've been watching magpies fly off with unfeasibly large sticks in their beaks. There's an apple tree a few gardens away where they seem to be building a nest. Great recycling of waste materials! The collared doves have learned to dangle off the bird feeder, and they also chase the magpies around which quite surprises me. Sparrow collective is chattering like crazy in the hedge and quite a few things are in flower.
