I came across this post on FSU and it basically sums up my opinion on the ridiculous and tired uproar over "Chanflation" and peoples', especially new fans', perception of him.
I think a lot of the vitriol directed Patrick's way has a whole lot more to do with people deciding for themselves that Patrick is an arrogant asshole who doesn't deserve to be getting gifts and less to do with their aversion to this particular situation if it involved a skater they do like.
I also find it interesting that the same people who once claimed that the quad needed to be encouraged because Men's skating is going backwards are now complaining of the scoring changes which encourage quads, because they are resulting in a guy they never thought would have a quad, winning medals with messy performances.
And I would just like to add that not everything has to be a vast conspiracy, extreme politicking, or stupid judges. It often is. But sometimes skaters get good marks because they are GOOD SKATERS. And with the new quad rule and the minimal fall deductions, the result is what it should be. The judges are doing their jobs and it's certainly not Patrick's fault. So personal attacks, viewing everything he says now through a prejudiced frame of mind, and blaming him for his scores and making up lies to rationalize blaming a skater for an accident then acting like it's fine when it happens to two other ones really really angers me.
Not only because I love his skating and am obviously biased :)
But it will always humor me to no end that some of the same people constantly bashing him for perceived overmarking, especially on PCS, are Joubert and Plushenko wives.
Anyway, TL;DR PChan-wifing. The usual for me. And if this angers you, I hope he haunts your dreams forever. ;) I leave you with Tomas:
