Just asking, does the static stand for anything significant?

yes! he's not really hearing the static...it's more of a concept/theme.

the meaning of static is: (1) pertaining to or characterized by a fixed or stationary condition, (2) showing little or no change, and (3) lacking movement, development, or vitality.

it's like sehun is breaking the fourth wall, realizing that nothing is going to change and everything stays the same. maybe i should have put that at the top ._.

okay i'm replying for jewel (the main author of the comm and the one who wrote this fic) because she's busy doing college stuff!

"just like static is consistently everywhere, like it's happening all of the time everywhere, you don't even notice it because there are a bunch of other things going on at the same time.
for instance, static during a phone call. you notice it when there's silence over the line and no one is speaking. as soon as someone speaks, you can no longer hear the static because it's being covered by their voice.
it's always there, it just goes unnoticed until something affects it.
did that make any sense? sorry, i am stressed over finals and can't really form comprehensible sentences.
