The most ignorant comment I read on Facebook:

And why do think racial prejudice is still going today? When do we let go of the past and move forward? I give thanks to those that paved the way so I can live the life I have today. Lead by example and not a hold a grudge for past crimes committed that were not personally done to you.

First off racial prejudice is still alive and well.  The Latino community was heavily demonized during the past elections, with Republican candidates using the whole immigration debate (and mind you, they were definitely going for the "scary brown people from Mexico" angle and not the "scary white Canadian/European" angle.  Funny how they always tend to do that), as a way to garner votes from the old white bigots that are scared that they are fast becoming a minority and might lose their white privilege.

Second off, the economic hard times are more heavily affecting minority communities, particularly African-Americans and Latinos on average.  The prison system sees more minority inmates because of the failed War on Drugs policy that skews justice against African-Americans and Latinos.  We call that institutionalized racism.

Lastly, even Native Americans still face issues where they still get the short end of the stick (I should note that I have a bit of Native blood in me, though not nearly enough to call myself one legally).

In short order, racism still exists.  It has not gone away just because we have a black president.  In fact, the racists are aiming at the US President, from questioning where he was born (it wouldn't have happened with McCain, even though he was born on a US base in Panama), even though Obama was clearly born in Hawaii, which was a state by the time of his birth, and claiming that he's a scary black man out to take away white privilege from white people by calling him a Nazi and claiming that he's the racist (which are ridiculous statements to make by any calculation).  No, I don't agree with everything Obama does, but that's from a policy perspective and nothing to do with his race.  I would never ever condone racism as a way to criticize anyone (any more than I approve of using sexism for the same).    So seriously?  If you haven't noticed that racism hasn't gone away?  You have NOT been paying attention.

And I say this as a white chick.  I was disgusted by the gutter trash racist politics that the Republicans engaged in.  Hence another reason why I will not vote for a Republican until they realize that the bigot white vote is only going to last so long before they don't exist anymore.  Young people are far more tolerant of those who are different than they are.

bigots, your privilege is showing, racism
