So I read on my Facebook news feed that a cousin's wife who brought her young kids to the polling place was offended that someone would ask her about her feelings on same-sex marriage in front of her young children. Because, as we all know, kids shouldn't know gay people exist.
So here I will write a letter to her.
Dear Cousin's wife:
Your kids are going to eventually find out that gay people exist sooner than later; from either hearing about it at school, or if I just happen to let it slip that I am gay if we're ever at some family gathering together, or if one of your kids are finding that they're having same sex tendencies at some point in their lives. Either way, sheltering them from reality isn't healthy and I hope to Goddess that you only said it because you don't realize just how homophobic you sounded and not because you ARE a homophobe. Because if there's one thing that annoys me out of the whole debate about gay rights is when people use children as an excuse for their prejudices.
Hope you understand,
