(On the last stretch of directions, from Macon to Athens, tree-lined roads, I popped in Almost Here for the first time in a while and it remended me why I'm doing what I do, reminded me that the easiest is not always the best, that challenge is the point.)
I drove a lot this weekend. The ride down to Florida was uneventful. I stopped at a rest stop and was surrounded by old people. A helicopter landed on the highway and stalled traffic. I saw ocean.
Before the show in St. Pete I ate Thai food and watched This Providence play a water glass symphony. Then I went in during soundcheck and taped up posters forever. This Providence stole my tape and scissors and we put up their posters too. I spent the show at the merch booth with my new favorite person, Dixie, talking about life and also Thai food. This Is Me Smiling is very catchy, This Providence is channeling The Academy Is... like you wouldn't believe, Murder By Death was very good and very much on the wrong tour, The Hush Sound was lovely as always (I believe I've seen them 10 times now?)
Videos aren't going to happen for a while. No time before Panic/Cobra this weekend and then those will be top priority when I get back. But soonish I'll have them all up and it will be nice.
I met FBR people I haven't met before, someone stood me up, and then I got rid of my CDs and went to find Greta to tell her good show. I adore Greta. Everyone should adore Greta. She is intelligent, she is witty, she is kind. She gives amazing hugs. But I had to dash after seeing her and Chris because I had two hours to drive to Amy's for the night. When I arrived there we watched Panic on SURS and then I passed out. The next morning I tell her tales of my crazy summer and then we dress and head into Orlando for the show.
I got to meet all of the band I was working for this tour (Adam, Sara, Matt, Alex). Murder By Death are awesome. Great music, great stage presence, nice and intelligent people to hang out with. Also fairly attractive, and I know one of the four gives good forehead kisses, especially while on a bender.
I spent a lot of this show backstage keeping out of the crowd because I was tired, doing some set up for my promotions and playing on the trusty sidekick. I watched from the side of the stage and had a decent view. Afterwards we stayed until midnight chatting and my friends got some pictures with This Providence, who are a bunch of goofballs I must say.
Then the long drive home. Florida should be smaller. So should Georgia. I don't remember what I did other than drive, but I'm sure I went to work at the linguistics office or something.
Tuesday we braved traffic into Atlanta, I got to see the end of Hush Sound soundcheck as I worked. Dustin, Abeeda and my cousin (omg Nicole Ashly!!1) were my companions, although we lost Abeeda to the front row while we stayed by the bar. I think Atlanta was my favorite show of the three, but maybe because the venue is familiar. I had to miss one song of Murder By Death because we were shooting holiday messages with This Providence (if you street team, be watching for that!), and some jerk heckled during their set, but they also had a stagediver, so it balanced out.
Hushies were, of course, lovely. I wiggled up close on Greta's side, almost tripping in the process, but I saved myself. After i was talking to Adam and accidentally knocked over a case, which happened to be a case of theirs that wasn't supposed to be inside, that they didn't know was inside, and that they would have left behind had I not knocked it over. Yes, I am just that awesome of a Street Syndicate person. I take care of things I don't even know i need to take care of! Then plans were made with Murder By Death to go to Clairmont Lounge.
If you are not from Atlanta, or don't know of the Clairmont Lounge let me explain: strip club. with karaoke.
Dustin and Abeeda didn't want to come, so they went to the Majestic while I partook of the insanity. Dixie and I danced (he even gave me a lapdance), Adam performed so well a stripped actually tipped him, Sarah and I linked arms and had a quiet moment. I had to go before the This Is Me Smiling boys or the Hush Sound boys took the stage, but I trust it was magical.
And now, pictures. Not of the Clairmont, sadly, because pictures are not allowed.
Or just go
here for the full set.
And that is all until I am back from the west coast for the first time this month. Expect awesomeness upon my return.
