More random posting about things.
Bangel doesn't bother me aside from being boring in S3. Yes, she's 16 and he very much isn't and if this were the real world, problem. The thing is it's fiction. If it were the real world I'd also have a problem with a 16 year old making decisions about the lives of others and the fate of the world as a whole.
This is the hole the show falls into in S3. We cheer on Buffy when she's telling voices of authority where to go. We trust her with the world and yet even the narrative suggests even as she gets older that she can't be trusted with her own affairs. It seems inadvertent at first, Angel has to leave for some reason or another, but it's done over and over later with Riley and Spike. Xander gives big speeches about how she's his hero and WWBD as if he hadn't spent the last 3 years questioning her personal decisions. I'm just using Xander as an example there, but you could supplant him with Joyce or Riley or Giles. It's definitely something the show itself reinforces, it's not only one character's issue.
