And this is why I don't do memes

I can never stick with it long enough to continue a trend. After trying to think up another opinion that changed from first watching, I am drawing nothing but a blank. I want to say S4 improved, but I don't remember hating S4. The stuff I didn't like still remains firmly in that column and I still like what I did before. I think the only other ( Read more... )

I thought that Go Fish was a passable enough MotW episode for season 2, I think it just gets a lot of hate because it's so poorly placed when it comes right after the IOHEFY cliffhanger. It's the sort of standalone episode that feels very 90's, but doesn't play at all well these days at a time when everyone is gearing up for the big finale

Villains was actually my favourite use of Dark Willow, just because it still felt like *her*, as opposed to her becoming rather a cartoonlike villain after she absorbs Rack's magic. So I do enjoy a lot of the scenes, such as when she comes into the hospital to get the bullet out of Buffy, or when she tortures Warren. It just feels like an episode that's sooo padded-out to get to that final sequence of Warrren being skinned, three episodes of Dark Willow was too much for the story they had.

And yeah, Spike's trip to "Africa" was a big let-down, you'd think they could have come up with some much more interesting ideas of what it takes to win a soul, rather than just fighting a demon and letting bugs crawl on you. They were so intent on having it end on a surprise twist that I suppose they didn't want want to tip their hands too early, but it's a shame because they could have got some interesting mindfuckery from those scenes with Spike trying to prove himself worthy of a soul, instead it all seemed to be focused on him proving that he's a great warrior or whatever

And The Prom is my fav out of those episodes as well :)

I'm a bit of a freak in that I actually like the MoTW stuff in the early seasons. Go Fish might be the last one until S4 that doesn't take itself too seriously. I guess placement could be a problem. I can't remember if I thought that way back. After watching them on VHS/DVD so many times you forget about the flow of things.

I hate DW period. The whole thing. I hate that as we converse about it, we're saying Dark Willow. Apparently Willow can kill a god or whatever in another dimension with mind bullets, but can't get Warren without becoming fetish gear wearing Willowus. Just... no. The gimmick seems like a cheap way to set up a dichotomy. It's Willow but not really, really Willow, you know? They didn't turn Buffy into Buffelus when going after Faith or in the alley in DT or Xander into Other!Xander when leaving Anya or have Spike under some kind of spell for Seeing Red. Yet we get this altered personality for Willow.

With Spike, I think we're meant to think more happens offscreen than just the bugs and flaming hands guy. But yeah, so much of Villains-Grave seemed like filler. I think I might hate everything about it. From Spike's pop up in Africa to Dawn suddenly being able to swordfight, Buffy's handwaved depression, Yellow Crayons, Giles' crap upon return... I can't think of anything I like about the S6 finale run other than the final scene.
