THIS CHARACTER DESERVED BETTER/MORE SCREEN TIME
Except when a character is given more screen time, the time given has to be justified. That character is no longer reacting or playing a part in another's story; they are the story. They have to provide the movement. They have to screw up. They have to make mistakes that hurt people. They have to be hurt. They have to change. No longer is their sole contribution to the story structured around offsetting the errors of the main characters. They will stop being a beautiful pastry.
tl;dr: If Tara was a central character, it would have been less taking Dawn out for milkshakes and more nearly getting everyone killed by casting blinding spells.
