Teh yawn.

Yay for the OOTP trailer! Well, I like the new Death Eater masks, I still don't like Michael Gambon, Hermione still looks way to girly, Bellatrix Lestrange looks gloriously evil, and AHAHAHAHA Harry's haircut! If it isn't one extreme, it's another. And Snape being Snape, and the twins hanging about in the background, and broomsticks on the Thames...! Gee, I hope this movie is as good as it looks. Also, r_grayjoy linked to some fan art explaining both the obscure tagline and the appearance of one of the main characters. Amusing stuff.

I've had a sort of love-hate relationship with late nights, which normally happen when I have stuff on my mind that I don't want to spend time thinking about and therefore put off sleep in favor of reading or brainless busy work. Two or three hours of sleep leaves me zoned out, processing new information awkwardly and leaving juvenile grammatical errors in my notes, but also oddly focused on stuff I already knew about, better able to perform tasks and make connections that can seem too significant during a stew of overcontemplation. Conversely, getting enough sleep can leave me hyper and scatterbrained. There must be a happy medium somewhere.

Staying up all night is not the most healthy coping mechanism. For one thing, there's guilt over the writing that doesn't get done during these times. For another, lack of sleep can reportedly kill brain cells, and I need all ones I've got. But it's better than some of Holmes's other ones, and if books and bad sleeping patterns are my only vices, I count myself a very lucky human indeed.

Meanwhile, my human rights paper is getting nowhere fast. The teacher advised me to talk to one of her colleagues, and I did, but the guy didn't have anything I could use. When I told the teacher I'd seen him, she said she was glad because he's her department head and it makes her look good for her students to ask his advice.

The country I'm writing about is very secretive; everything going on over there is officially denied. I told her that too, with an eye to asking her what sources I could consider canon, and she SMIRKED and said, "Of course you know that's how it is in America too. We don't really know what we think we know."

She said it like it was a revelation, like she was glad I was finally catching on.

I ALREADY KNEW THAT, WOMAN! Every country has its secrets. But what am I supposed to put on my report!?

Oh well. When in doubt, make icons.
